Although he doesn't let us enter the last room to do our research, there is actually nothing to fear from him.... In fact if it wouldn't be for him diminishing the power of the guards, we probably wouldn't be able to get in.
But since we realized that there is some poisonous gas leaking from that last room, we are probably forced to leave these ruins.
