According to the ancient texts concerning dreams, emotions are the power that everything in our dreams relies on. Concerning nightmares, it is "fear" which is to be seen as the source of power.
Although this is only some kind of far-fetched talk, the Ancient Kingdoms really did have some kind of dream technology. So "fear" being a "source of power" is already part of reality.
Looks like our enemy has revived this technology ...
