SC_208079_BOOK_0The Riddles of History
SC_208079_BOOK_1Over ten years ago, General [115598|Drake Angerfang] went on a campaign. Everyone was hopeful that the general would return triumphant, but in the end, only [116220|Skarbar Sharpclaw] returned with a handful of survivors.\n\n[116218|Skarbar] told everyone that General [116217|Drake] was killed by [116224|Zanka] in [ZONE_ZANKA_DUNE|Zanka's Dune], and most of the soldiers died as well.\n\nThis was shocking news, because we had all seen that General [116217|Drake] was heading out to suppress the banditry of the [116219|Rotteneye] tribe. Why had they suddenly changed course to [ZONE_ZANKA_DUNE|Zanka's Dune] to attack [116224|Zanka]?\n\nSome said that the [<S>116219|Rotteneyes] were behind it all. That they had tricked the general into attacking [116224|Zanka], knowing all along that he would be eaten alive. But wasn't [116217|Drake] too smart to fall for such a trick?\n\nThe answer to that question, along with [116217|Drake's] bones, have all been buried beneath the sands of time.
SC_208079_BOOK_2After the death of General [116217|Drake], everyone urged the wise [116218|Skarbar] to become our new lord.\n\nYes, I said, "wise." While [116217|Drake] still ruled, [116218|Skarbar] was a reliable advisor, and his fame was only secondary to [116217|Drake] himself.\n\nAfter the well-loved [116218|Skarbar] took up his post, he re-outfitted the army to prepare for an attack on [116224|Zanka], to avenge the death of [116217|Drake]. Of course there was no shortage of enthusiasm for the campaign, and volunteers joined the newly reformed army in droves. The [116222|Angerfang] clan was particularly fervent, and nearly all of them volunteered to join [115600|Limon]. The [<S>116221|Sharpclaws] were active as well, particularly in support and logistics, but none could match the numbers of the [<S>116222|Angerfangs] on the front line.
SC_208079_BOOK_3At the time, no one thought too much about it. We just figured that [116218|Skarbar] knew that the [<S>116222|Angerfangs] wanted vengeance more than most, and would thus make the most stalwart troops for the front line.\n\nThis campaign, like the first, did not go well.\n\nThe army was bitterly defeated, and the [<S>116222|Angerfangs] were nearly wiped out. Not only was General [116217|Drake] not avenged, but the entire country suffered a major blow. [116218|Skarbar] announced that he would not send another expedition until a more fit and able army could be assembled.
SC_208079_BOOK_4It was about that time that [116218|Skarbar] began sending squadrons to [ZONE_ZANKA_DUNE|Zanka's Dune] for military exercises. While there wasn't a repetition of the previous tragedies, each expedition saw some loss of life. But the bodies of the dead were never brought back, which caused some consternation among all of us.\n\nWhen General [116217|Drake] died, his body was never found. Over a hundred soldiers set off to battle [116224|Zanka], but less than 30 bodies were recovered.\n\nEven more strange was the fact that none of us ever discovered the bodies of the fallen at [ZONE_ZANKA_DUNE|Zanka's Dune]. It all added up to a tangled mystery which none could unravel.
SC_208131_BOOK_0Anonymous Journal
SC_208131_BOOK_1Today, I take up a great burden. On my father's behalf, I have proceeded to the [116219|Rotteneye] interim base to keep an eye on them.\n\nFather said he needed someone he could trust to spy on the [<S>116219|Rotteneyes], lest they betray us at the critical moment.\n\nIt will be a challenge, but it is also a sign of my father's confidence in me. I must do my utmost to complete this task to his satisfaction. Even though their numbers are greater than I suspected, I still believe I can succeed.
SC_208131_BOOK_2Seventh day at the [116219|Rotteneye] interim base.\n\nIt was only with great difficulty that I located a blank record sheet, which is essential to my plan.\n\nPerhaps I am too sensitive, but I feel that in fact they are spying on me, rather than the other way around.\n\nMy actions are constrained here. Everywhere I go, there are always two [<S>116219|Rotteneyes] that follow me. I've told them not to, but they won't heed my orders. I've also tried to reason with the [116219|Rotteneye] captain, but he just called in a few guards to shut me in my room again.\n\nI overheard them saying they would move me into a more cramped room. They're also planning to keep me busy with menial labor. I may find it difficult to write in this journal again...
